I don’t typically lean into the year-end wrap-ups and reflective anecdotes because I’d been operating in survival mode for so long that I didn’t feel I had the luxury of taking time for stillness. My journey in 2023 gave me a glimpse into the opportunities available if I take the time to explore. The desire to have more meaningful and substantive outdoor experiences for myself and others grew as my reach and impact on social media increased.
I have been consistently sharing my adventures, even though I rarely plan to film them. Through my posts, I provide insight into the things that bring me joy and peace. During the summer I decided to be more intentional when it came to highlighting local trails and hidden hikes because I finally began to realize the service I was providing. It took a while for me to understand the value of my offering because I wasn’t being directly compensated. Which was a misstep on my part. I shouldn’t have been searching for my value in a dollar amount. I’m grateful to have people in my life who let me know the importance of the work I’m doing. And thankfully I listened.
I desire to demonstrate how accessible outdoor experiences are without having to travel across the world or even across the country because you shouldn’t need to have a lot of money to enjoy the outdoors. There are so many places to explore right around you, but there is a chasm that exists between you and these beautiful locations. I believe that gap is a lack of awareness and information. There are so many instances of people living in the town where I’m highlighting a scenic trail, park, or waterfall, that have never heard of it. And I feel a great sense of pride knowing that I helped introduce them.
In 2023, I realized that connecting people with green spaces introduced a newfound relationship with health, wellness, and environmentalism. Through sharing my journey, I have helped people discover communities that align with their values and beliefs. I understand that it's important to see people like you represented in the world to feel confident sharing your interests with others.
Now that I have had a year to fully comprehend the scope and magnitude of my work, I am excited to explore new possibilities for expanding my impact and creating positive change for both myself and my community. I am confident that by prioritizing the creation of sustainability and stability, we can ensure the longevity and success of my work.
